Norma Thomas Gillispie, 90, of Pearisburg, departed this life Saturday morning, November 2, 2013 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek. Born in Chatam, on May 31, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Annie Amos Thomas.

Norma was a talented artist, musician, and business woman helping her husband operate Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. She was a devoted member of Pearisburg Presbyterian Church and served as church organist for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gillispie, her parents, and her sister, Pat Hildebrand. She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law, Kerry and Elizabeth Gillispie of Blacksburg; her granddaughters, Kerrie Pugh (Archie) of Salem and Victoria Erickson of Reston; her great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Carson Pugh and Sarah Erickson; her brother, Joe Thomas of Canton, Ga.; and her sister, Margie Pleasants of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday at 7 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with the Rev Shirley Larson and the Rev Eddie Kendall officiating. Entombment will be Tuesday in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral one hour before the services.
