Thomas Vaughan Giesen, 81, of 56 Ridge Rd., Lyman, S.C., died Monday, December 20, 2010 at his residence. Born March 5, 1929 in Konawa, Okla., Mr. Giesen is the son of the late Dr. Andrew F. and Virginia V. Giesen of Radford, VA.

He is a United States Air Force Korean War Veteran, a retired employee of ScheringPlough Pharmaceuticals, and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Giesen was also an Oklahoma Sooner’s fan whose favorite saying was ” I’m Sooner born and Sooner bred and when I die, I’ll be Sooner dead”.

Surviving are his wife, Deborah “Debbie” Giesen of the home; fours sons, David (Jan) Giesen of Leesville, S.C., Richard “Rick” (Vickie) Giesen of Nixa, Mo., Daniel (Ellie) Giesen of Newnan, Ga., and James “Jimmy” Giesen of Cannon Manor, Spartanburg. Also surviving are a brother, Professor Richard Anthony Giesen, Moneta, Va.; a sister-in-law, Virginia V. Giesen of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Giesen, Amanda Giesen, and Josh Giesen and one great-granddaughter, Rebekah Giesen. Mr. Giesen was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Nancy V. Giesen and a brother, Dr. Andrew F. Giesen, II.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Greer, S.C., conducted by Father Mike Schnatterly. Visitation will follow the service at the church. The family will be at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund Corp. earmarked for either “Upstate Mobility-Impaired Hunts”, “Upstate Hunting and Fishing Mentoring Program” or “Upstate Scholarships” at P.O. Box 2641, Columbia, S.C., 29202.
