Gearheart, Basil R.

Basil R. Gearheart, 80, of Christiansburg, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Sunday, December 20, 2008. The son to the late Clifford and Virgie Gearheart, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Rachel Gearheart Flinchum.

Basil worked and retired from Virginia Tech Bookstore in 1988. He served his country in the United States Army, serving in Germany, and has been a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by his wife, Elva Buckner Gearheart, 86, of Christiansburg; son, Randall A. Gearheart and his wife, Margaret (Lilly) Gearheart, of Blue Ridge, Va.; brother, Robert M. and his wife, Margaret Dowdy Gearheart, of Christiansburg; grandson, Anthony Gearheart, of Lynchburg, Va.; niece, Donna Gearheart Dabney, of Palatka, Fla.; nephews, Robert D. Gearheart, of Christiansburg, Clifford Doyle Flinchum, of Pilot.

The family will receive friends at the Horne Funeral Home, Monday, December 22, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Roy Glennard Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
