Garwood, Virginia Smithers

Virginia Dawn Smithers Garwood, age 81, of Pulaski, died Sunday evening October 22, 2023, at Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation Center. Her faith carried her home. She was born on February 27, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Virginia Blanche Smithers and the late Henry Richard Smithers.

She was a member of Pulaski Church of God. She always had a smiling face, and she worked at her sister’s store (Guida’s Market) for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wayne Garwood, Sr., brothers; Venice Smithers, and Hoyt Smithers, and a son, Richard Wayne Garwood, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter; Debi (James) Livingston of Pulaski: son; Todd (Lanie) Garwood of Pulaski: two sisters; Guida Sutphin of Christiansburg, and Judy (Tony) Smith of Pulaski. Also survived by three grandchildren; Nick Livingston of Ft. Mill, SC, Brittany Livingston of Evanston, IL, and Lauren Cannoy of Max Meadows. Also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Hilltop Pentecostal Holiness Church 4892 Veterans Hill Road Pulaski, VA 24301 with Pastor Todd Garwood officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
