garrett_melissa_algeneMelissa Algene Garrett, 26, of Roanoke, formerly of Elliston, left this life for her heavenly home Thursday, March 4, 2010. She was a graduate of Eastern Montgomery High School and a former employee of Elizabeth Arden. Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leslie Wade Hall, Jr., Josephine (Nana) Hall, and Brownie Wayne Garrett, Jr., and a cousin, Philip Wade Hall. Surviving are her sons, Brayden G. Saunders, and Elijah S. Saunders; parents, Gordon G. and Deborah Hall Garrett; grandmother, Thelma Algene Garrett all of Elliston; sister, Emily Duncan Shanks and husband Ray of Salem; special niece, Hannah L. Shanks; half brothers, Christopher H. Garrett, New Mexico, David S. Garrett of Florida; special friend, Cathy Sullivan of Roanoke; father of Brayden and Elijah, Bruce G. Saunders of Roanoke; uncles, B. W. Garrett of Virginia Beach, Jimmy, H.C. and Dickie Hall; aunts, Charlotte Smith, Linda Sarver, Gwyn (GG), Doris and Barbara Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Brayden and Elijah Saunders Education Fund c/o Kemba Credit Union 2812 W. Main Street Salem, Va., 24153. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Va. 24019. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home, 366-0707.
