Douglas MacArthur “Mac” Garnand, 79, of Riner, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Mac served honorably as a fourth grade of the specialist rank of United States Army Quartermaster Corps during the Vietnam Conflict, earning two purple hearts for his service. He retired from the United States Postal Service, and was a former member of the Riner Volunteer Fire Department.

Mac was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Vest Garnand; parents, James and Willie Garnand; sister, Catherine Scaggs; brothers, Henry, Billie, Freddie, Robert, and Jimmie Garnand. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Dale & Stephanie Garnand; daughter, Dana Garnand; two grandchildren, Lauren and Joshua Garnand; brother and sister-in-law, Don & Pat Garnand; sister, Dottie Garnand; sisters-in-law, Pat, Debbie, Arlene, and Vivian Garnand; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Helen St.Clair; special nephew, Brad St.Clair and wife Lisa; great-nephews, Elijah and Carter St.Clair; numerous other nieces and nephews; and special friends Timothy Chrisley, Todd Chrisley, and Paul Johnson.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April, 26, 2021 from 5-7 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Shake Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Riner Fire & Rescue.
