Gallagher, Thomas Bernard
Thomas Bernard Gallagher, long-time resident of Blacksburg, passed away January 18, 2013 at the age of 74 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Tom was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of John and Anna Gallagher, originally of Ireland. He graduated high school from St. Michael’s in Brooklyn and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from City College of New York. Upon graduation, Tom embarked on a career as an electrical engineer, first in Garden City, Long Island and later in Florida, Virginia and North Carolina. Tom enjoyed boating, fishing and golf and his vacations at Fripp Island, S.C., as well as a good cigar. He also enjoyed his regular visits to Florida where he could “run about” with his brothers. His deepest passion and pride was always his children and grandchildren. Tom is survived by Linda, his wife of 42 years; his son, Thomas Bernard Gallagher Jr.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Gallagher; daughter, Lisa Gallagher Tuleya; son-in-law, Robert Tuleya; and four beloved grandsons, Ryan, Michael, Finnley, and Aidan. He is additionally survived by his siblings, John Gallagher, Sheila Von Rosk, and Joseph Gallagher; and several nieces; and nephews; and great-nieces; and great-nephews. Tom is also survived by his beloved dog, Sammy. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blacksburg, with internment to follow at Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley, Blacksburg.
