Joshua Bruce (J.B.) Fugate, 89, of Blacksburg died Monday, May 21, 2012, at New River Valley Medical Center. He was born in Williston, Fla. on June 29, 1922, to the late Joshua Hawkins and Fannie Clarke Fugate and was also preceded in death by his wife Mary Sadie Sutphin Fugate.

“J.B.” was a veteran of World War II, and one of the last survivors in this area. He had a distinguished military career flying 52 missions.

He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Melvin Linkous, of Blacksburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Sue Fugate, Dean and Tammy Fugate, both of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Raymond Fugate, Greg Linkous, Marc Linkous, Josh Fugate, Emily Fugate, Amy Fugate; great-grandson, Avery Linkous; sister, Mildred Flythe, of Blacksburg; brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Maxine Fugate, of Loretto, Tenn.; brother-in-law, George Sutphin and wife, Mary, of Salem.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012, in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg, with Pastor Joanna Stallings officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may made to the V.F.W. Post 5311, 490 High Street, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. 540-552-3211.
