Richard Wellington (Dick) Frizzell, 78, of Blacksburg, Va., died on Thursday, October 9, 2008. He was born on October 5, 1930, in Baltimore, Md., and was the son of the late Richard and Dorothy Frizzell.

Surviving are his wife, Pat; son, Rick and his wife, Diane; granddaughters, Lauren and Kelly, of Blacksburg; son, Dan and his wife, Kristin; grandson, Hunter, of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter, Jill and partner, Gail Kibler, of Christiansburg; brother, Ray and his wife ,Sam; nieces, Maya and Sophie, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; niece, Laura, of Birmingham, Ala.; stepdaughter, Dana Joyce and husband, Todd, and children, Wes and Amanda, of Radford; stepdaughter, Tia Garris and son, Parker, of Houston, Texas; and stepson, David Arnn, of San Jose, Costa Rica.

Dick will be remembered for his perseverance and hard work. He was instrumental in the growth and success of the Heritage Hall Nursing Homes across the state of Virginia. He served on the Virginia State Board of Licensure for Nursing Home Administrators. He was the past President of the Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce. He sat on the Advisory Board of National Bank of Blacksburg and was currently on the Board of Radva. This is but a short list of his many accomplishments and contributions during a rich life filled with many adventures. His family and many friends will miss him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richard W. Frizzell Memorial Athletic Scholarship, c/o The Hokie Club, P.O. Box 10307, Blacksburg, Va. 24062. A private memorial will be held at a later date for family and close friends. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg, Va.
