Freeman, Lonnie

Lonnie Freeman of Narrows, VA formerly of Pearisburg, VA was born May 20, 1937 and departed this life on Thursday March 23rd 2023. Lonnie was born May 20th, 1937 to Cue and Annie Freeman. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, son Michael, brothers Alfred and David. Sisters Nora and Alberta.

Lonnie was a Korean War Army Veteran of the 101st Airborne. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 42 years of service. He was a member of Goodwill COGIC in Eggleston and later of First Baptist Church VA Heights, Pearisburg, VA. He was a member of the Eggleston and Pearisburg Fire Departments. Former member of the Pearisburg Lions Club. He volunteered for several years with the Pearisburg Little League Football program.

Spring was his favorite season because he loved being outdoors. He planted huge gardens and gave the harvest to family and friends. Hunting with his buddy Roscoe Scott yielded many funny stories. Lonnie had the gift of help. He would help anyone in need.

Those left to cherish is memory are his daughter Ramona and husband Phil Wood. Brother in-laws Gilbert Wilkerson, Ronald Wilkerson and Charles Wilkerson. Sister in-laws Gladys Bailey and Paula Wilkerson. Former son in-law Thomas Peoples. Grandsons Dwight Scott, Tony Peoples, Michael (Tee)Peoples, CJ Lee and Erica Lee. 3 step grandchildren Stephen Wood, Christopher Wood and Samantha Lucas. 7 great grandchildren. 10 step great grandchildren. Many nephews and nieces he loved like they were his children. Cousin Shirley Johnson. Special friend Mary Brooks. Several family members who were not born into but loved into our family. Too numerous to name.

The viewing will be Tuesday evening, March 28, 2023 at Kendall Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The funeral will be Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at noon at Kendall Funeral Home with Military Rites. Per his wishes he will be cremated following the service.
