Freeman, Clara Banks
Clara Banks Freeman, (Mother Freeman) as she was so fondly known answered the Master’s call early Monday morning, March 29, 2010, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, Va. She was born on April 3, 1915, in Giles County, Va. to the late Jim and Maude Banks. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Freeman, a daughter, Ethel Mae Parks, and two sisters, Juanita Ratliff and Penny Minor. Mother Freeman was an active member of Goodwill Church of God in Christ at Eggleston where she held the position of Church Mother. She was president of the Pastor’s Aid Group for Goodwill and the Roanoke District Churches of God in Christ. She loved praising God and cooking for her neighbors and friends. Mother Freeman leaves to cherish her memory a daughter and caregiver, Estelle Summers and son-in-law, James Summers Sr., of the home; two sons, James A. Freeman, of Pembroke and Clarence W. Freeman, of Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six greatgreat grandchildren; two nieces, Clara Mae Twine and Virginia McEnheimer; her beloved friend and sister in Christ, Frances Freeman; a very special friend and caregiver, Faye Coles, of Kellysville, W.Va.; and a host of relatives and friends also cherish her memory. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in The Goodwill Church of God in Christ at Eggleston with Elder, Dr. Clinton Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., during which time the family and friends will offer up Christian Worship.
