Frazier, Russell Carrington

Russell Carrington Frazier, 89 of Narrows departed this life Sunday, October 28th, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of Narrows, he was born on March 11th, 1923 and was the son of the late William McKinley and Janie Elizabeth Cunningham Frazier. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Hensley Frazier; a grandson, Rick Cook; a brother, William Frazier, Jr.; and a sister, Peggy Price. He was a World War II United States Army veteran, having seen combat in the Philippines and New Guinea and was a member of VFW Post #6000 and American Legion Post #68. He worked for 23 years as a van driver for New River Valley Senior Services. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Russell will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory are a son, Bob Frazier and wife Linda of Narrows; a daughter, Susan Reed and husband Jesse (Governor) of Stuart, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Rusty Cook and wife Dr. Martha Fernandez of Virginia Beach, Kristy Cook of Narrows, Sonny Frazier and wife Tammy of Narrows, Bridget Newby and husband Rusty of Narrows, Leigh Ann Meadows of Martinsville, Shannon Boyd of Stuart, Kelly Stiltner of Stuart, Walter Boyd of Woolwine, Virginia; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jimmy Frazier of Texas, Lee Ray Frazier of New Castle, Virginia; three sisters, Nedra Huffman of Narrows, Rathma Johnson of Vinton, and Janice Cochran of Mimes, Florida; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 1st, 2012 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Kevin Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Riffe’s Funeral Service Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM.
