Joseph Aster “Mutt” Franklin, 87 of Radford, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2006.

He was a member of the Radford Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired from Hercules with 33 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Franklin, his parents, William Robert and Emma Hall Franklin, a sister, Katherine Elizabeth Franklin, and six brothers, Henry Elmer Franklin, Charlie Lee Franklin, Robert “Jeff” Franklin, Sr., Virgil Ray Franklin, Glen Alexander Franklin and Wilson McCoy Franklin.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny Thomas Franklin of Parrott and Richard B. Turpin of Radford; guardian children, Darrell Lee Duncan and Terry Wayne Duncan, both of Radford, Linda Duncan Whittaker of Pilot and Sherry Duncan Blankenship of Dublin; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and three brothers, Rev. Sam Franklin of Radford, Rev. Van Franklin of Dublin, and Quentin Roosevelt Franklin of Radford; special niece and caregiver; Wilma Mabry. The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Hall in Blacksburg for their love and care.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Radford Worship Center with Rev. James Walker and Rev. Glennard Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Capt. George Quesenberry Cemetery in Floyd County. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. The Franklin family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
