Irene Bell Fortner, of Dublin, Va., born Irene Sue Bell on March 3, 1934 in Rural Retreat, Va., went to be with her beloved husband John Richard Fortner in eternal paradise on Saturday, May 7, 2016.

A wonderful mother to Sheilah Gieselle Fortner, outstanding grandmother to John Everett Davis, a very doting great-grandmother to December Elizabeth Ward and the best sister to, Wanda Lee Lovejoy of Virginia Beach.

“There will never be another sister, mamma or grannyna like Irene!” A nurse for 50 years, she touched many lives and hearts.

Irene’s viewing and memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 11th, at Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., 815 Randolph Ave., Pulaski, Virginia. The family will be accepting visitors from 10 until 11 a.m. with a short ceremony following in the funeral home chapel. A graveside service will be around 11:30 a.m. from Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The Reverend Johnny Howlett will preside over both services.

The family asks that Irene be surrounded in flowers, as spring was her favorite time of the year. Peonies, lillies and daisies were some of her most enjoyed. If you would like to make a charitable donation to one of her favorite organizations they are St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and The Joy Ranch of Hillsville, Virginia.
