Forkner, Doris Eugenia (Jean) Reid

Doris Eugenia (Jean) Reid Forkner, 86, formerly of Blacksburg, peacefullly passed away on December 28, 2011 at the Heritage Green Assisted Living Community in Mechanicsville, Va. Jean was born July 19, 1925 in Missouri, the daughter of Roland I and Virgie M. Dixon Reid. Jean is survived by her husband of 59 years, Henry R. Forkner; four children, Jeanette R. Brammer, of Mechanicsville, Henry R. Forkner Jr., of Princeton, W. Va., Stephen R. Forkner, of Blacksburg and Annie F. Duda, of Germantown, Md.; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Dixie Long, of Iowa. She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Jean was a member of the Blacksburg Baptist Church. She enjoyed her bible studies, walking, bridge, Hokie sports, the Atlanta Braves and being with her family. A memorial service will be held January 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Bennett Funeral Home Chapel, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville, Va. Another service will be held in Blacksburg at a later date.
