Flinchum, Nora Ethel

flinchum_nora_ethelNora Ethel Flinchum went to the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Born in Franklin County in 1927 and raised in Floyd, her career took her to Virginia Beach, where she received many honors and promotions, retiring as a Budget Analyst for the U.S. Navy and returning to happily live out the rest of her days in Riner.

A devout Christian, she was also a lifelong champion of women and animal rights. The many who loved her never recall her saying anything unkind about anybody else. She was an inspiration and role model for many, many people.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Janney Childress, and her beloved sister, Frances Evelyn James, of Riner.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Iford Flinchum, her son and daughter-in-law Jim & Renee Flinchum of Virginia Beach, her granddaughter Staci Flinchum Wallach and great-grandson Max Wallach, both of Fort Worth, Texas, and her beloved niece Nora Joy LaRue Volner of Riner, as well as many others too numerous to list but all of whom were loved.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Chapel with Pastor Rusty Mullins officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local Humane Society in her name.
