Harvey Wesley Flinchum, 78, of Salem, Va., passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Lewis Gale Medical Center. He was born in Pilot, Va. on June 4, 1932. He retired from Old VA Brick Company in Salem. Harvey was a member of First Evangelical Methodist Church in Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents, Posey and Annie Flinchum; sisters, Effie Mae Reed and Bessie Flinchum; and brothers, Roy and James Flinchum. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rebecca Lou Flinchum; daughter, Lori Helvey and husband, James; son, David Flinchum; four grandchildren that were his pride and joy, Katie, Tommy, Emily, and Jacob; sister, Ruth Blackwell, of Pilot; sisters-in-law, Edith Hall and husband, Ottie, of Blacksburg, Jo Lovern and husband, Randall, of Blacksburg, and Lucille Linkous, of Abingdon; brothers-in-law, Henderson Linkous and wife, Shirley and Tom Gearheart, all of Blacksburg. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and techs of 3W at Lewis Gale Medical Center for their kindness and support during this difficult time. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010, at First Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 15, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem.
