Fleet Sr., Arnold Samuel

Arnold Samuel Fleet Sr., 86, of Blacksburg, Va., died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at his home. He was born in Montgomery County on March 20, 1923, to the late Frank A. and Lizzy May Giles Fleet. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Hutchison Fleet; and his son, Arnold S. (Sammy) Fleet Jr.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Pacific Theatre in the United States Army. Mr. Fleet retired from Hercules after over 32 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Lois A. McCoy, of Blacksburg; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Shirley Fleet, of Blacksburg, and Richard and Kathy Fleet, of Pembroke; seven grandchildren, Donnie Fleet and wife, Carolyn, Sam Fleet and wife, Julie, Brian Fleet and wife, Tracy, Billy McCoy and wife, Shannon, Tammy Collins and husband, Joe, Amy Fleet, and Barry Fleet; eight great-grandchildren; and special friend, Charles Dove.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Richard Sheppard, Dr. William Cox, and the nurses and staff on the second floor at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dewey O. Weaver Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, 200 Progress Street, N.E., Blacksburg, Va. 24060.

Friends may call any time after noon and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2009, at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg, Va.
