amem_farm_tractor.jpgVernice Alvin Fleeman, 80, of Narrows, departed this life and joined his wife, on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Giles Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith Scott Fleeman; a grandson, Roger Alvin Fleeman; twin sister, Vernie Deweese; sisters, Panzy Reed, Mae Martin, Minnie Fleeman, Nellie Thorne, Vivian Fleeman; and brothers, Everett Fleeman, Roy Fleeman, Dave Fleeman, Ed Thorne, Bascom Thorne, Clarence Thorne and Fred Thorne.

A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was self-employed as a farmer and sold produce at many flea markets in Virginia and West Virginia. His love in life was, first and foremost, his family. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling to various churches as part of a singing group as well as being an avid Virginia Tech fan.

He is survived by five sons and their wives, Alvin and Trena Fleeman, Ronnie and Thelma Fleeman, Terry and Cheri Fleeman and Jerry and Tina Fleeman, all of Narrows and Danny and Sandra Fleeman, of Dallas, Texas; and a daughter and her husband, Drema and Alton Thompson, of Narrows. Additionally he is survived by 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy in Narrows with the Rev. Jim Hagy and the Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Fleeman Family Cemetery in the Wayside community of Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe Funeral Service Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.
