Finckenor, Corinne Ella
Corinne Ella Finckenor, 86, of Blacksburg, died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery. She was born in Lyndhurst, N.J. on December 20, 1925, to the late Nichol and Lauretta Schade Gerold. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lauretta Payne, DVM. She was a pharmaceutical chemist for Schering Corporation where she co-wrote many chemical papers. She was a longtime resident of Wayne, N.J. where she was a hospice volunteer and was President and Board member of the Collie Club of Northern New Jersey. She moved to Blacksburg in 1990. She became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was chairman of the Rosary Makers. She was a member and officer of the New River Valley Kennel Club and a longtime volunteer of the Pregnancy Resource Center of the New River Valley. She loved dogs and horses, had three champion collies and enjoyed riding horses until she was 78. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Lawrence E. (Larry) Finckenor, of Blacksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John Jacko, DPM of Martinsburg, W.Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Miria Finckenor, of Owens Cross Roads, Ala.; son-in-law, Jeffrey Payne, DVM, of Berlin Pa.; six grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher Payne, John and Christina Jacko, Erich and Ruth Finckenor. Funeral mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Remi Sojka officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of New River Valley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 1205 Old Mill Road, Blacksburg, VA 24060, or Pregnancy Resource Center of the New River Valley, 708 N. Main St. Suite 200, Blacksburg, VA 24060. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg.
