Margarita Marie Ferro, 66, (who liked to be called “Rita”) of Rocky Sink Road, Newport, VA, departed this life Sunday morning, October 13, 2013 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg, VA. Born in Thessalonica, Greece on July 2, 1947 she was a daughter of the late Rodney and Katina Kalathaki Landrum.

She had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord, having been raised in the ancient faith of the Greek Orthodox Church, and becoming a member of the Roman Catholic Church, the faith of her husband, and joining in the fellowship and worship with her children at Sherry Memorial Christian Church in Newport after moving to Virginia. She had become a dear and valued member of her Virginia community and church.

Rita had formerly lived and raised her family in Cheyenne, WY, and later Salt Lake City, Utah where she had been employed in security services with the FAA at the airport. Rita was ever the busy and loving neighbor, gardening, sewing, crotcheting, cooking her great Greek food and outstanding spaghetti, writing books and joining in the Womens Bible Study Class at Sherry Memorial Christian Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Bennie Michael Ferro; her children Lucy Ferro Cox and husband Pastor Matthew Cox of Blacksburg, VA, Stephen B. Ferro of Cheyenne, WY, and Gina M. Ferro of Cheyenne, WY; Her grandchildren Jessica M. Cox of Blacksburg, VA, Kasi M. Johnston of Phoenix, AZ, Alieia A. Ferro of Cheyenne, WY, Stevie B. Ferro of Cheyenne, WY, Katina A. Cox of Blacksburg, VA, John M. Cox of Blacksburg, VA; her great-grandchildren Aaron Pacneio, Jr. of Cheyenne, WY and Phoenix C. Cox of Blacksburg.

Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 1`:00 pm in Sherry Memorial Christian Church, Mt. Lake Road, Newport, VA. Her son-in-law and Pastor, Matthew Cox will officiate. The family will receive friends at the services. Following Rita’s wishes after cremation her ashes will be scattered at the ocean.
