Ferrell, Mary Bundy

Mary Buchanan Bundy Ferrell, 89, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, January 12, 2015 surrounded by her family. Born in Tazewell on August 24, 1925, Mary was the eldest child of Jett and Nannie Buchanan Bundy.

Mary spent her early years in Witten Valley, Tazewell County and later moved to Pulaski. She briefly taught school in Tazewell and Pulaski Counties. After her marriage to Burnett and their children were older, she worked until her retirement at Riverlawn Kindergarten in New River. Mary also was a farm wife, working many long hours with her husband and sons on their dairy and cattle farm.

Mary loved her family and friends always sharing her baked pies, jams and jellies. She loved her flowers, gardening, home canning, and always enjoyed her phone time with her friends. Mary was a charter member of Unity Christian Church.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Burnett Cook Ferrell, brother, Jay Bundy, and sister, Martha Witten. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and mother-in-law.

She is survived by her children, Harriet (Larry) Lambert of Charlottesville, John (Judy) Ferrell of Pulaski, and David Ferrell of Radford; grandchildren, Sarah L. (Patrick) Torrens and Andrew Lambert and one special great-grandson, Oliver. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Patsy Bundy and Alice Ferrell; and special canine companion, Buddy.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the Unity Christian Church in Radford. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am with Rev. Wendy Wilson and Rev. Mike Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Hickman Cemetery in Pulaski County.
