Fenton, Margaret Hodge

Margaret Hodge Fenton, 85, of Blacksburg, Va., departed peacefully on November 30, 2008, at her home. She was ushered into her new realm of “being” by the loving presence and support of her daughter, Sharon; and her devoted caregiver, Liese Carmen. She was met as she crossed over by her husband of 64 years, Harry, the love of her life. Harry preceded her in 2002.

Margaret’s desire was to die in her house, as was Harry’s. Her wish was honored and embraced by her family and her Creator. Her honesty and sense of humor with all she loved, keeps her real essence in everyone’s heart and will lovingly comfort those she’s left behind. Margaret’s understanding of the commandment “Honor thy Father and thy Mother” was her hallmark in life. Her wisdom embraced all who were around her, especially the children. There was enchantment and adoration shared with all her “little ones.” We who knew her in this life learned so much about kindness, fairness, and especially true faithfulness.

She was born in Eggelston, Va., on May 7, 1923, to the late William Henry and Bertie Sartin Hodge. Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by an infant son, William Henry Fenton; five brothers, Robert Hodge, James Hodge, Maynard Hodge, Lewis (Monk) Hodge, and Harry Preston Hodge; four sisters, Mary Latta, Louise (Sissie) Church, Isabel Drinkwater, and Mae Cromer; and also brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, William and Thelma Fenton, and James and Margaret Henry.

Mrs. Fenton is survived by her daughter, Sharon Fenton and husband, John Duncan, of Christiansburg; her son, Wayne Fenton and fiance, Mary Kay Carroway, of Blacksburg; three grandchildren, Anthony “Tony” Fenton and wife, Diane, Terry Fenton and wife, Shawnee, and Bartley Duncan; four greatgrandchildren, Morgan and Jordan Fenton, Tyler and Kaleb Fenton; two sisters, Lena Brooks, of Blacksburg, and Patricia Sweeney and husband, Calvin, of Christiansburg; her brother and sister-in-law, Arnold (Tooter) Hodge and wife, Dorothy, of Blacksburg; three sisters-in-law, Hazel Hodge, of Christiansburg, Dorothy Hodge, of Christiansburg, and Polly Hodge, of Blacksburg; special niece and nephews, Jewell Barnett Moore, Richard Hodge, and Larry Henry; and and other loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, in the Alleghany Church of Christ with Mr. Porter Riner and the Rev. Ronnie Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg.

Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 125 Arrowhead Trail, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. Friends may call anytime after noon on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W., Blacksburg.
