amem_peachroseAnnis Farmer Farris went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 7, 2016. She was a founding member of Newbern Community Christian Church, Postmaster of Newbern for 40 years, and also worked at Appalachian Power Company for 8 years.

She was a graduate of Draper High School and Bluefield College. She was born on July 20, 1926 in Shiloh, and was the daughter of Ethel Owens Farmer and Haven Howe Farmer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kent Vernon Farris, her twin brother Ernest Farmer, brother Francis Farmer; sisters Edith Farmer Rorrer and Evelyn Farmer Taylor.

She is survived by her two children; Martha Farris Coake (Wayne) and Susan Farris Vaughn (Mark), grandchildren; Matthew Coake (Ashley), Sara Shiflet (Josh), Christopher Vaughn (Angie), Ami Young (David), great-grandchildren; Kaitlyn Parrish, Lexi Parrish, L.J. Shiflet, Brynna Shiflet, Drake Vaughn, Austin, Levi, Hunter, Kyle and Kent Young. Also surviving is her only living brother, Melvin Farmer (Jean), and sister-in-law, Artie Farmer, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 11, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Newbern Community Christian Church followed by a burial in Newbern Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
