Farmer, William D.

William D. Farmer, 82, of Avon, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born March 13, 1926 in Belspring, Virginia and moved to Avon from Lorain in 1959.

Bill served in the Navy during World War II. He was employed as a plumber with Local 55, Cleveland, for 59 years. He was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, Stonington Masonic Lodge No. 503 Amherst for 37 years and a life member of the Valley of Cleveland Scottish Rite. He was also a life member of the D.A.V. He enjoyed golfing and gardening, especially growing roses. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was described by his family as well-liked, trustworthy, punctual and honest.

Mr. Farmer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mickey (nee Turpin); daughters, Nora Farmer of Virginia and Robin Farmer of Avon; son, Mike (Tracey) of Avon; grandchildren, Jennifer Marcin, Shelly Heininger (Scott), Bill, Samantha, Melanie and Emma Farmer; great-grandchildren, Darren Marcin and Sienna Thomas; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Farmer of Hinckley; brother, Clarence Farmer (Sue) of Covington, Virginia; and sisters, Eileen Rickett (Eddie) of Covington, Virginia, Peggy Via of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Doris Jo Ingram (Butch) of Huntersville, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Gene Farmer; parents, Robert O. and Mary Sue Farmer (nee Miller); and several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd. Avon, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M. Friday, April 4, 2008. Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home by the Stonington Lodge Friday evening at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services will be held at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd. Avon Lake, Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11 A.M. The Rev. Kelly Peters will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
