Polly Asbury Farmer, 83, of Radford, Virginia, died May 13, 2007 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, Pennsylvania.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ellen Lee of York, South Carolina and her son, Dr. Thomas W. Farmer and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth Zeiders Farmer of State College, Pennsylvania, and one brother, James W. Asbury and his wife Viola of Tazewell, Virginia; three granddaughters, Samantha and Mary Afton Lee and Adaline Farmer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Newton Thomas Farmer.

A native of Tazewell, Virginia, Mrs. Farmer was the owner of Polly’s beauty salons in Radford and Fairlawn for over 50 years. She devoted many years to her profession, including two consecutive terms on the State Board of Cosmetologists, where she served as chairman. After retiring, she continued working as a hairstylist at Wheatland Hills Retirement Center. She was a member of Grove United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Mullins Funeral Home, Radford. Services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Grove United Methodist Church, 1020 Tyler Avenue, Radford, Virginia. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park, Radford. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children’s or Youth Ministries at Grove United Methodist Church.
