Lawrence S. Estes, 79, of Blacksburg, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Lawrence was born in Radford on January 27, 1929, to the late Lawrence and Zella Estes.

Lawrence always looked to the future and a better life. He first worked at Burlington Mills in Radford then met his loving wife, Lura, of 56 years. Lawrence then opened his own garage which he ran for over seven years. He then started his own contracting business of 20 plus years often times working over 20 hours a day. Lawrence always was striving to give his family a better life and often helping others in need. Lawrence remained very active up until April of 2007 when he was diagnosed with neurons disease. He always had a passion for antique cars and tractors. He enjoyed visiting with his sons at their businesses and spending time in his garage restoring antique cars.

Lawrence leaves behind his loving wife, Lura Estes; three sons and daughtersin-law, Ethel Estes, Dennis Estes, Larry and Shela Estes, all of Blacksburg; one brother, Edward, Sara Estes, of Homestead, Fla.; sister, Mary Quesenberry, of Radford; four grandchildren, Jennifer Gilley, Stacy Estes, Michael Estes and Brittany Estes; three greatgrandchildren, Ashley, Josh and Amanda; special cousins, Molly and David Mericle, of Virginia Beach; special nephew, Ray Linkous; and special friend, Beth Shepherd. Mr. Estes also enjoyed his wonderful brother and sister-in-laws.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Akers officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
