Luther Thomas Epperley, age 87, of Blacksburg, precious dad, papa, father-in-law and pops, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Kroontje Rehab Center in Blacksburg. He was born on April 29, 1928 to the late Thomas McKinley and Essie Trail Epperley in Pulaski and eventually settled down and raised his family in Blacksburg, where he resided until his death.

He retired from Hercules in September 1980. Upon his retirement, he helped his son, Mike with his excavating business for several years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth, daughter, Edna Faye Epperley Sowers and his three siblings, Elizabeth Epperley Hedge, Edgar and Raymond Epperley.

He also leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Donna and son-in-law, Jerry Price, a son, Mike and special daughter-in-law, Charlotte, son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Clarence and Susan Sowers, five grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Rick Vaden, Dee Snider and Bobby Viers, Jeff Davis and Connie Kingrea, Brad and Amy Epperley, Brandon Epperley and Alisha Hutchison, two step granddaughters Jeri Shane Heath and, Keri Pearce, 11 great grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren and 5 step great great grandchildren, one great great grandchild on the way. special family members, brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Shelvie Epperley, sister-in-law, Christine Epperley., sister-in-law, Dolly and Alvin Nolan and numerous nieces and nephews, who he loved dearly, his canine buddies, Sadie and Zoey, special friends, David and Ana Lewis and Renee, Dr. Ray and Lee Dessy, Mary Goforth, all his special fishing buddies, special doctor and friend, Dr. Lucian Robinson, nurse, Sharon and the Carilion Family Medicine-Blacksburg Staff, who cared for him like family. A special thank you to all the staff at the Kroontje Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 3:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary McCoy and Rev. Gary Poff officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Blacksburg Christian Church Disciples of Christ 240 Watson Ave., Blacksburg, Va. 24060 and Castle Rock Baptist Church 201 Castle Rock Drive, Pembroke, Va. 24136.

The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 pm Saturday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
