Elgert, Irmgard Christowzik

Irmgard Eva Christowzik Elgert, 94, from Blacksburg, Va. went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. Irmgard was born on February 10, 1924 in Germany to the late Gustav Christowzik and Johnanna (Brinkmann) Christowzik.

She was next-to-the-oldest of five siblings, three preceded her in death; she is survived by her younger sister Erna (Christowzik) Behnke living in Germany. Irmgard is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Adam Elgert.

She graduated from High School in Lindensee and Lack, in the counties of Johannesburg and Lack, East Prussia, Germany. In 1951, she immigrated to the U.S. with her husband, Adam and two children, Klaus and Margitta, initially residing in Philadelphia, Pa. where Barbara was born; in 1955 the family moved to Langhorne, Pa., where two more children Peter and Katie were born.

Irmgard was a homemaker, doing her favorite thing in life, raising her children. After a successful tenure as head of his industrial sheet metal company, Irmgard and Adam moved to Florida in 1983. They moved to Dogwood Circle, Warm Hearth Village, Blacksburg, Va. in 2000. Irmgard and her husband were devoted members of the Blacksburg Wesleyan Community Church.

Irmgard Elgert is survived by her five children, son Klaus D. Elgert and wife, Kathleen, of Blacksburg, Va,; daughter, Margitta Pfleger and husband, Glenn (deceased), of West Lawn, Pa.; daughter, Barbara Plemmons and husband, Rick, of Christiansburg, Va.; son Peter Elgert and wife, Susan, of Quakertown, Pa.; and daughter, Katie Parkins and husband, Joseph, of Langhorne, Pa.; and eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Pruitt officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at McCoy Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held in Pennsylvania at the convenience of the family.
