effler_carter_leeCarter Lee Effler, 68, of Radford, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010. He was born October 9, 1942 in Charleston, WVa the son of the late George Washington and Louise Bowling Effler. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and ran New River Clinical Lab for over 32 years. Carter served the citizens of Radford in many ways including serving on the Radford City School Board, the Radford Representative on the NRV Juvenile Detention Home Commission, and organized and directed a city wide youth choir. Carter was also a lifetime member of the Radford Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Janet Shumate Effler of Radford; two sons and daughter-in-law, Lee and Sharon Effler of Radford and Scott Effler of San Francisco, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Andrew Taylor of Radford; grandchildren Jessica, Daniel and Nathan Taylor; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Richard Lantz of Winchester. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 15, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Radford with Rev. Mike Carter and Rev. Don Shelor officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends from 6 pm until 8 pm Sunday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Central United Methodist Church, 803 Wadsworth St., Radford, Va 24141. The Effler family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
