edwards_elsie_surber.jpgMs. Elsie Surber Edwards, of Pearisburg, Va., and Charlotte, N.C., was born on March 23, 1916, and died on Saturday, October 10, 2009. She retired as Purchasing Agent for Giles Memorial Hospital after 20 years of service. Elsie and husband, Stuart, moved to Charlotte in 1998 and resided at Merrywood on Park Road.

After 61 years of marriage Stuart died in 2003, and Elsie continued living a fruitful Christian life. She served as one of Merrywood’s Ambassadors, and was leader of the weekly Vesper service, as well as teaching her beloved Sunday School class at Mouzon United Methodist. Ms. Edwards’ Sunday School teaching included over 35 years at First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, Va., where she founded “The Willing Workers” class. Elsie’s voice mail stated, “This is the day that the Lord has made…” even a phone call to her could lift a person’s spirits.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg, Va. A Memorial Service will be held 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Merrywood on Park Road in Charlotte.

Elsie Edwards is survived by daughter, Beth and her husband, Wes Argabrite, of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Charles Edwards and his wife, Nancy, of Palmyra, Va.; grandchildren, Jason Edwards, Anna Edwards and Tresa Wilhelm; and greatgrandchildren, Bryce Edwards, Logan Wilhelm and Peyton Wilhelm.
