edmonds william josephDr. William Joseph Edmonds, Ph.D., 77, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sylvatus, Va. on January 23, 1934, to the late Graham and Virginia Bond Edmonds. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Quesenberry Edmonds; and a brother, Roy Edmonds. Bill worked for Virginia Tech from 1962 until he retired in 1999. During his career he was a soil surveyor with the Research Division of Virginia Tech, a field coordinator with the soil mapping program, and taught a senior level course in Soil Survey and Taxonomy. In his spare time he was an avid photographer of the Huckleberry Trail. He was a remarkable man and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan E. and David Carver, of Dunn, N.C.; son, David W. Edmonds, of Blacksburg; brother, Elmer Edmonds, of Fredericksburg. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, September 23, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Westview Cemetery with Dr. Don McKinney and the Rev. Vinton Quesenberry officiating.
