Gary Lee Eaton, 70 years old, of Rich Creek, VA, left his earthly life for his home in Heaven on Friday, July 14, 2017, after losing his battle with lung cancer with his devoted wife by his side.

Born January 28, 1947, at Bluefield, WV, he was son of the late Emory Lee and Mildred Louise Riggins Eaton. Gary was an avid UVA, Baltimore Orioles, and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, but what he enjoyed most was traveling across the country with the love of his life.

Gary attended Virginia Western Community College where he studied Machine Technology. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran and an Army Commendation Medal recipient. He was a very active member of the local community, where he was a member of the Glen Lyn Church of Christ, the Rich Creek Lions Club, Narrows VFW Post #6000, American Legion Post #68, and John Dove Lodge #78 A.F. & A.M. Gary served on the Giles County PSA Board of Directors and the Carilion Giles Community Hospital Board of Directors. He served as Chairman of the Giles County Board of Supervisors and was the NRV Planning District Commissioner. He served on the Rich Creek Town Council for two and half years before being elected Mayor in 1990 and serving until 2003, and was re-elected in 2009.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dreama Mills Eaton; one brother, Gregory Eaton; and two sisters, Carol Markle and Brenda Smith. Survivors include his loving wife of 11 years, Marsha Wickline Eaton and two daughters, Dina Gaye Bullins and husband Paul of Princeton, WV, and Denise Louise Reynolds and husband Tony of Pembroke, VA.

Funeral services will be 12:00 PM on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, WV, with Minister Ron Abshire, Danny Meadows, and Chris McKlarney officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rich Creek, VA. Friends may call from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the funeral home. Joe Moore, Bill Fox, Jackie Clemons, Bob Logan, Stephen Wickline, and Robert Tiefenthaler will serve as Pallbearers. Giles County Administration Office employees: John Mills, Chris McKlarney, Rick McCoy, Jay Williams, Chappy Baker, John Ross, Brian Reed, Jamie Snider; and Classmates: Paul Rader, Bobby Claytor, Danny Evans, Danny Bowling, Buddy Bradley, and Ben Wheeler, will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Glen Lyn Church of Christ Building Fund at P.O. Box 120, Glen Lyn, VA, 24093.
