Doris Ray “Dot” Eaton of Blacksburg VA passed away peacefully on November 22, 2017. She was born November 14, 1933 and grew up in Pearisburg, VA. She graduated from Pearisburg High School in 1951 and was an enthusiastic participant of her class reunions throughout her life. After an early career at the Bank of Giles County, she made her major professional contributions to Virginia Tech over 35 years as a secretary and administrative assistant. Her most lasting gifts were bestowed as a mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and loving friend. She was a tiny thing, hardly bigger than a Dot. But inside was a heart so large that everyone and everything in the world could fit inside it. She lived until the very end with compassion and caring for others that was awe-inspiring, and a JOY in living that touched everyone she met. These gifts will last forever. She was preceded in death by her father William Carl Ray Sr., mother Calla Missouri Ray, brothers William Carl “Toodle” Ray, and Donald Lloyd Ray, and her husband of 13 years, Donald Starritt Eaton. She is survived and achingly missed by her sister Betty Jane Eaton of Salem, her son Greg Eaton and wife Suzanne of Forest, VA, her son Willie Eaton and wife Debbie of Canadian, TX, her daughter Karen Eaton Humphreys of Rockledge, FL., her granddaughters Kayla Moritz, Kaya Humphreys, Isabel Eaton, and Annalise Eaton, and her grandson Will Eaton. There are so many family and friends that she loved so much, in Kansas and Virginia! You know who you are by the hurt this news brings, and by the JOY in her memory that soon replaces that sadness. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 1pm at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Brian Burch officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Warm Hearth Foundation, retire.org/index.php/foundation. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
