James Wade Eanes, 83, of Christiansburg, and formerly of Pilot, Va., passed away on Friday, January 16, 2009. He was born in Floyd County on March 5, 1925, to the late James Robert and Eulala Clower Eanes. He was also preceded in death by a brother, R. Wirt Eanes; and a son-in-law, John Creger.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He retired as a rural mail carrier and belonged to the Floyd VFW Post #7854.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Gwinn Whitlock Eanes; four children, Roger Eanes and wife, Jodi, of Sterling, Va., Karen Patterson and husband, Les, of Vinton, Va., Sandra McGugan and husband, Dave, of Cape Coral, Fla., and Linda Creger, of Pulaski, Va.; grandchildren, Mandy Raftery and husband, Sean, Christopher and Catherine Patterson, Wade and Grace McGugan, and Brandon and Lindsay Creger; and one brother, H. Wayne Eanes and wife, Roxie, of Knoxville, Tenn.

Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24068. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2009, from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Dr. A. Timothy Hight officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.
