Henry Lee Dyer, formerly of Pulaski, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Va., after a long illness. He was born October 1, 1923, in Pulaski County, Va., the son of the late, Henry L. Dyer and Melinda Austin Dyer.

He was a lifelong member of Clark’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Pulaski, Va. Lee was a veteran of World War II having served in the Marine Corp. Lee was one of the soldiers who participated in the raising the United States flag on Iwo Jima in Japan.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Robinson Dyer; and a loving son, John R. Dyer Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters; two brothers; a loving daughter-in-law; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2008, at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va., with the Reverend Leroy Henry officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 5, 2008, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church, Pulaski, Va. Penn’s Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
