Durham, John Henry

On July 5, 2019, John Henry (“Bubby”) Durham went to his Heavenly home at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, VA. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. John retired from Volvo Trucks in July 2006 after 34 years. John served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged May 1966. John loved coon dog hunting, car races and boxing. John’s most favorite thing in all the world was having fun with his granddaughter, Katie, who was absolutely the apple of his eye.

John was born May 4, 1940 and raised in Bland, VA.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John H. & Roxie Vencil Durham, his daughters, Angela Durham and Tina D. Viers, his siblings Edith Melvin, June Sands, Harvey Durham, Alleta Blankenship, Frankie Strock and a nephew, Billy Melvin.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Linda T. Durham; his very special granddaughter, Katie Viers; his siblings, Paul Durham, Bluefield, VA, Jerri Baisden, Princeton, WV, Von Bowman, Bluefield, WV, and Evelyn Ballard, Pikeville, KY; his special pet companion, Stella; and a whole host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 1:00P.M. at Fairlawn Church of God in Fairlawn, VA with Pastor Marcus Harrison officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens with military rites provided by the Dublin American Legion Post #58. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 A.M. until service time, 1:00 P.M.
