dunford robert stephenRobert Stephen (Squirrel) Dunford, 60 of Narrows passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at his home on Wolf Creek. He was born in Giles County on June 16, 1953, and was the son of the late Robert Paul and Sylvia Bowles Dunford. In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Dent Dunford. A 1971 graduate of Narrows High School, he was a longtime employee of Radford Army Ammunition Plant with 34 years of service. A loving husband and father, Squirrel was an avid outdoorsman and golfer. He never met a stranger, and had a tremendous sense of humor, leaving everyone with a smile on their face. Left to cherish his memory are a son, Stephen Paul Dunford of Burkeville, Virginia; two sisters Sandra (Sonnie) and Dr. William D. Stafford, and Betty and Roger Browning, all of Narrows; nieces and nephews David Stafford of Pulaski, Katrina White (Steve) of Salem, Kim Sandras (Craig) of Daleville, Dianne Roe of Ripplemead, Stephanie Arnoldt of Narrows; several great nieces and nephews; a mother-in-law, Dana Dent of Pearisburg; and a host of special friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 398 Main Street in Narrows, with the Rev. Aaron Atchley, the Rev. Doug Hyndrich, and the Rev. Jason Stubblefield officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows.
