Nena Elmalene Thompson Duncan, 81, of Radford, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011. She was a member of Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Junior Duncan.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Charles Housel of Graysontown; her son and daughter-in-law, Randal and Julie Duncan of Radford; four grandchildren, Elijah Housel and his wife Elizabeth of Pearisburg, and Joseph Housel, and Kaylor and Emma Duncan, all of Radford; great-grandson, Sawyer Housel; two brothers, Ronol Gene Thompson of Ironto, and Robert Earl Thompson of Claytor Lake; six sisters, Glada Virginia Goodman of DeFiance, OH, Mary Frances Teany of Christiansburg, Doris Crane of Roanoke, Phyllis Gallaher of Childress, Nancy Westmoreland of Galax, and Judy Sharpe of Summerville, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank all of Elmalene’s friends, neighbors and church family for being so supportive and visiting her over the years, Dr. Michael Conatser and the Carilion NRV Medical Staff, and the generous and caring staff at Radford Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11 am at the Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Lane officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Radford Food Bank, Grove United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
