duncan donald davisonDonald Davison Duncan, 61, of Hiwassee, Va., and formerly of Radford, Va., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, after an inspiring and courageous two year battle with cancer. His last illness did not define him, but rather illuminated his determined spirit and strong character. Donnie truly loved life, his wife, his family, and his many, many friends, and he was, in turn, deeply loved by all of them. Donnie was born in Radford on September 19, 1952, to the late Dr. Charles R. and Margaret T. Duncan, and he lived and worked there and the surrounding area all of his life. He graduated from Radford High School in 1970, and subsequently from Wingate Junior College and Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He began working at Felix’s Book and Gift Store in 1989 and remained at what has now become the Radford Book Exchange until he left work in 2010. Donnie is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Fay N. Duncan; his twin brother, Dexter T. Duncan (Susan), of Nashville, Tenn.; his brothers, Charles R. Duncan Jr. (Patricia), of Greenville, S.C., and Michael V. Duncan (Donna), of Roanoke, Va.; his sister, Margaret D. Walden (Dan), of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and his many devoted nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. with the funeral service directly to follow, on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Radford, Va., with the Reverend Paul Lane officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013, at the Vinson-Duncan Family Cemetery in Johnston County, N.C. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Donnie’s honor to the ARCC Program of the National Organization of Rare Disorders (NORD), 55 Kenosia Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810, or to the charity of the donor’s choice . DeVilbiss Funeral Home in Radford, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
