“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me” ~ II Timothy 4:7-8 Virginia Lorraine Dudding, 95, of Maybrook Community, Newport, departed this life Monday noon, September 30, 2013, at her home in the loving care of family and caregivers after a long illness. Born in Newport on July 17, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Sarah Emily Dennis Martin. She was a 1936 graduate of Newport High School, a beloved mother and grandmother and a Christian Lady, member of Lucas Memorial Christian Church. She was the devoted wife of the late Oscar Berlin Dudding in a good old fashioned marriage that lasted 72 years. She was also preceded in death by her son “Butch” Oscar B. Dudding Jr.; a great-grandson, Joshua Dudding; her brothers, Paul and Jack Martin; and her stepmother, Lilly Huffman Martin. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Benjamin R. Dudding and his wife, Judy Williams Dudding, of Newport; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Thomas Dudding, of Pembroke; her four grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren, including a special little Brooke Carter (that was a light in her life), her devoted and always helpful nephews, Doug and Darrell Martin, of Newport; and her faithful and skilled caregivers Angela and Ricky Slate. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Thursday, October 3, 2013, in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Abbey Mausoleum in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services.
