Dowdy, Robert Wayne

Robert Wayne Dowdy, 56, of Blacksburg, went to meet the Lord on Friday, February 3, 2012, at Lewis Gale Hospital-Montgomery. He was born in Montgomery County, on April 9, 1955.

He and his son, (M & R Excavating) were instrumental in the development of Brush Mountain Estates and many other county projects.

He is survived by his father, Mitchell Dowdy; mother, Ruth Dowdy; daughter, Angela Dowdy Raines and fiance, Eric Griffith, and his daughter, Briana Griffith; son and daughter-in-law, Mitch Dowdy and wife, Bonnie; sister and brother-in-law, Fay Quesenberry and husband, Maynard; grandchildren, Lauren Dowdy and Austin Dowdy; aunts, Mary Kipps and Mildred Memitt; uncle, John Gearheart; special cousin, Darrell “Pete” Kipps, along with numerous cousins; nieces; and nephews; special loved one, Diane Dowdy Frazier; special friends, William Flinchum, Bonnie Hobbs, and Danny Gallimore also known as his caregiver.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Glennard Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions maybe to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 ST. Jude Place. Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
