Dowdy, Robert Mitchell

Robert Mitchell Dowdy, age 86, of Merrimac died, Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Montgomery County, Va. on October 10, 1934 to the late Cecil and Minnie Cooper Dowdy. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Dowdy, granddaughter-in-law, Bonnie Dowdy, brother, Billy Dowdy.

He was a member of Merrimac Pentecostal Church. Mitchell loved farming, working with horses and cattle. He also loved putting out his gardens.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Dowdy, daughter and son-in-law, Fay and Maynard Quesenberry, grandchildren, Mitch Dowdy, Angela Griffith (Eric), great-grandchildren, Lauren Hughes, Austin Dowdy, Briana Griffith, great-great-grandchildren, Addilyn Rose and Owen.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 2:30 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Richard Hall and Pastor Reggie Britts officiating. Entombment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 pm Wednesday afternoon prior to the service.
