Pauline Kingrea Dowdy, age 98, of Blacksburg, formerly of Spruce Run, died Friday, December 20, 2013 at Heritage Hall. She was born in Eggleston, VA on October 13, 1915 to the late John and Mary Lou Hopkins Kingrea.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ned H. Dowdy, son, Ralph Hale Dowdy, grandson, Ralph Hale (Rusty) Dowdy, II, son-in-law, Harry Thomas (Tom) Hurd, and her four sisters and six brothers.

Pauline was active in many community activities during her years spent in the community of Spruce Run and was head of the flower department for the Newport Agricultural Fair for many years. Love for her family, church, the Eastern Star, travel, and friends were key things that kept her very young at heart.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Peggy and William O. (Chuck) Huffman, of New Castle, and Jane D. Hurd, of Blacksburg, three grandchildren, Joe Dowdy, Matthew Dowdy and wife, Kimberly, Shari Tripp and husband, Robert; three great-grandchildren, Ashlei Barham and husband, Justin, W.R. Tripp and Heather, Paulena (Lena) Dowdy; two great-great-grandchildren, Oscar and Gunner Barham, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the care givers and staff at Heritage Hall and the hospice group for their care.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Morris Fleischer officiating. Interment will follow in the Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg.

In-lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Newport Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 133, Newport, VA 24128.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-2:00 pm prior to the service at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
