Dowdy, Mary Williams

Mary Williams Dowdy, 89, of Pembroke, departed this life Sunday evening December 22, 2013 in the care of Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek. Born in Giles County on July 10, 1924 she was a daughter of the late Chapman L. and Maude Sarver Williams.

She was a member of Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church at Hoges Chapel, was retired from the Celanese Plant at Narrows, and was a graduate of Pembroke High School.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray C. Dowdy, a son Michael Dowdy, her brothers Clarence and Arnold Williams and her sisters Lucille Hilton and Peggy Day.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law James A and Sharon Dowdy of Pembroke; her daughters and son-in-law Jacquelyn Poff of Manassas, Eileen and Chris Cramer of Rock Hill, SC; her brother Eugene Williams of Florida; her sister Freddie Marie Williams of Richmond; her twelve grandchildren; her twenty-one great-grandchildren; and her three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 pm until service time at 2:00 pm.
