Dowdy, Dorothy Ann

Dorothy Ann Dowdy, 80, of 4811 Towes Ferry Road, Newbern, Va., died Wednesday afternoon, May 23, 2007 at her home.

She was born in Richmond, Va. on May 22, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Charlie Hylton and Lucy Flinchum Hylton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude T. Dowdy; by her sister, Myrtle Reed; brothers, James Hylton and Ernest Hylton; and by her sister-In-Law, Ethel Hylton. She was a member of the New River Baptist Temple, Fairlawn.

Surviving are sisters, Bertha Ellis, Richmond, Weda Batten, Richmond, Freda Donivan, Sandstone, Va.; children and spouses, Carl and Carolyn Dowdy, Blacksburg, Faye and Frank White, Pulaski, Peggy Summers, Pulaski, Bertha and James Dillow, Dublin, Charles and Teresa Dowdy, Dublin, Eunice Dillow, Newbern, Joyce Dowdy, Newbern, Donald and Greta Dowdy, Newbern, Jake and Linda Dowdy, Wytheville, Debbie and Ken Richardson, Max Meadows, Patty Furrow, Radford; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with Pastor Gary Stike and the Rev. Earnest Chinault officiating. Burial will follow in the Dowdy Family Cemetery, Blacksburg. Visiting will be Friday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va.
