Weldon Uylet Dow, 62, of Elliston, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, September 22, 2006. Weldon Uylet Dow departed this life at the VA Medical Center, Salem. He was born August 23, 1944 in Powhatan, Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Lacy Dow and a brother, Milton Dow.

Weldon graduated high school from CII in 1963. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on June 27, 1969. During his tenure, he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Gold Contact Medal. He owned and operated Dow trucking for several years. He retired as a foreman from S&S Management Company in 2000 with a certification in HVAC. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elliston.

He is survived by his mother, Elsie Trent Dow; daughter, Melissa Dow; grandson, Rodney Hearse; brother, Carlton (Frances) Dow; sisters, Geraldine (Ronn) Broadway, Gladys Dow, Evelyn (Charles) Carter, and Margaret (James) Sallee; uncle, Andrew Dow; aunts, Willie Battle, Doris Norrel, Laura Toms, and Marie Hicks; nephews, Kenneth Dow and Donald Dyson; nieces, Cynthia Broadway-Dyson and Danielle Dow; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Elliston with the Rev. Lee Pusha officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, September 25, 2006 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home Elliston Chapel (268-2007).
