Donohue, Irene Florence

Irene Florence Donohue, 65, of Blacksburg, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010. She was born in Larksville, Pa. on May 10, 1945 to the late Michael and Florence Mitura. A graduate of Hofstra University, she began her career as a writer at the Lafayette Journal and Courier, then moved to Blacksburg in 1974 to raise a family with her husband. After fourteen years of service to various departments at Virginia Tech, including Admissions and the Physics Department, Irene retired in 2006 and continued her lifelong passion of travel. She is survived by her husband of forty-three years, Stephen John Donohue; two daughters, Sharon Donohue, of Orlando, Fla. and Jennifer Donohue, of San Diego, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Janel Donohue, of Fredericksburg, Va., and their children, Alexis and Evan. A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Remi Sojka officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
