Malon Herbert Dillon, 71, of the Clendennin Community near Narrows, departed this life Monday evening, March 12, 2007 in the loving care of his family at his home.

Born in Monroe County, W.Va. on October 25, 1935, he was a son of the late Erie Hampton Dillon and Nora Mills Dillon Morris and stepson of Wesley Morris. Herb was a devout Christian, member of Bethel Chapel Church in Clendennin, where he served as Elder, Associate Pastor, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, skilled guitarist, member of The Liberty Singers, and servant of His Lord and The Church.

He was proud to be a veteran of the US Navy, and one of the youngest Chief Petty Officers raised to that rank. He was a 1953 graduate of Peterstown High School. After his naval career he had worked at North American Aviation in Princeton, W.Va., Electro-Tec in Blacksburg, W.Va. Armature Company in Glen Lyn and retired from Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows. He also took time to learn the masonry trade and loved to work with his hands.

He and his wife Dottie also spent great energy and time serving as foster parents. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Eddie Dillon, and his sisters, Alice Gillespie, Lorraine Gordon, and Myrtle Hill Slaughter.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 50 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Hayes Dillon; three sons, Danny and wife Doris Dillon of McLean, Va. Joseph “Joe” Dillon of Newport and Jeffrey Dillon of the home; two daughters, Kimberly and husband Opel Yuvanavattana of Clendennin, and Shannon Dillon of Lonoke, Ark.; a brother, Virgil Dillon of Mannington W.Va.; three sisters, Louise Hardage of Greensboro, N.C., Juanita Lundy of Apollo, Pa., and Nancy McKnight of Akron, Ohio; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and thirteen foster children.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday March 16, 2007 at 2 p.m. in Bethel Chapel Church in Clendennin with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial with military honors by VFW and American Legion Posts in Giles County will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Bethel Chapel Church Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The Bethel Chapel Church Family will serve a luncheon-reception at the church following the burial for the family and friends.
