Dare Woodrow Dickson, 84, of Christiansburg, Va., passed away Saturday, January 27, 2007, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem, Va.

A retired employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, he was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines, and was a life member of V.F.W. Post 5311. He was a member of Belmont Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Dickson; children, Dale Patrick Dickson, of Ft. Payne, Ala., Peggy Sue Heslep, of Elliston, Va., Kathy D. Dowdy, Rockville, Md., and Douglas Warren Dickson, Marysville, Tenn.; sisters, Bobbie Frazier, of Greensboro, N.C., Ola Mae Blair, of Jeffreson, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Belmont Christian Church Vision Fund, 2149 Dominion Drive, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. The body will be placed in the Belmont Christian Church Monday afternoon where friends may call after 3 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at the church.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 30, at Belmont Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Bayne, the Rev. Jerry Dowdy, and the Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Interment will follow in the Belmont Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1184, Pulaski, Va.
